The Green Corridors project is a cross-border initiative funded by the Bulgaria–Turkey IPA CBC Programme (2007–2013). Managed by the Municipality of Burgas and Kırklareli municipality, it aims to promote natural, cultural, and historical heritage through sustainable tourism and green transport routes. The project connects 60+ landmarks via scenic cycling and walking trails that link Bulgaria’s Burgas region and Turkey’s Thrace region.
Why Green Corridors Matter
- Sustainable mobility: Trails replace motorized routes, reducing pollution and improving public health.
- Heritage discovery: Visitors explore archaeological sites, medieval villages, monasteries, and natural sanctuaries.
- Cross-border unity: It strengthens cooperation between Bulgaria and Turkey and fosters shared environmental stewardship.

Why It Matters
Green Corridors combine eco-tourism, heritage protection, and active travel. They offer a low-impact tourism model that preserves nature, supports local economies, and encourages cross-border collaboration.
